Viva Obama: Together,Yes We Can!

drawing/ watercolor by marguerita
What a wonderful moment in all of our lives on this Earth. I feel on my skin and happy to witness the barrier of unjust prejudice of all kinds to finally face the inevitable.Being the daughter of Holocaust survivors, born in one country growing up in another ,from uprooted wonderful human beings, who were able to instill in me perseverance, hope and a conscience for social awareness,to believe in mankind even after the most horrible experience both my parents endured, both taught me that Life is about feelings, emotions, colors and hope. I myself, upon coming to America,as a self made person, recognized for my talent, internationally, only to be maligned and silenced by an evil character in New York City, causing me to be sidelined and hurt.
I am in tears and hopeful, that the corrupt vision that had permeated through and destroying America,in every level and aspect, for years and years, has reached its end. This part of the world was already centuries ago, a beacon of light. Kings .queens and thinkers trusted their inner beliefs that from here , there would be a source of spiritual energy to allow us all, to share the air, waters and Beauty of Existence.
With passion.
I can only paraphrase what I heard years ago from my dear principal in Brazil, Dona Soledade Santos, who for many years later in my life wrote to me: "Nao sejas pusilanime nas agruras da vida e nem exaltado nos momentos de prazer".Manter o equilibrio e saber viver.
"

The election of Mr. Obama amounted to a national catharsis — a repudiation of a historically unpopular Republican president and his economic and foreign policies, and an embrace of Mr. Obama’s call for a change in the direction and the tone of the country. But it was just as much a strikingly symbolic moment in the evolution of the nation’s fraught racial history, a breakthrough that would have seemed unthinkable just two years ago.The New York Times - Breaking News, World News & Multimedia

Chamomile

Certain active compounds in chamomile work similar to anti-anxiety medications, which promote relaxation in the brain and nervous system.

If you are a tea connoisseur or a fan of calming, warm drinks that settle you down before bedtime, you are probably familiar with Chamomile tea , a popular herbal tea appreciated for its mild, fruity flavor and capacity to soothe one’s nerves. Actually, the word derives from a Greek word for ground apple, and its taste has been described as reminiscent of quinces or apples.

Chamomile offers many benefits -- it has a long history of use as both a medicinal herb and a tea. In fact, chamomile has an impressive pedigree backed up by medical research, and is understood to help a variety of conditions. Chamomile can be used safely for a long period of time to nurture the nervous system, among other systems of the body.

This herb is native to Europe, North Africa, and the Mediterranean region. Its dried flowers have been used for centuries in herbal tea, while its oil byproduct has been an ingredient in commercial flavors and perfumes. Chamomile foliage and flower heads have also been used as antispasmodics (to reduce muscle spasms) and diaphoretics (to produce perspiration).

University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom refers to chamomile as a medicine that strengthens the stomach. Science Daily recently covered a study in the U.K. that studied the effects of regular intake of chamomile tea over a period of two weeks. Researchers found the tea drinkers had increased evidence of antibacterial activity in their urine. This outcome strengthens the evidence that chamomile can also boost the immune system and help fight illness.

The urine analysis in this study also noted an increase in amino acids that help alleviate muscle spasms and relax the nerves. These benefits can be helpful for people suffering from stress, muscle spasms of any kind, and menstrual cramps. A handful of chamomile leaves brewed in a part or a tea bag steeped for a few minutes brings these benefits.

Researchers at the National Institutes of Health discovered that chamomile can help people with some intestinal discomfort. Chamomile works as an anti-inflammatory and reduces gas. The same study recommended that people drink a cup of tea after meals, and emphasized the herb’s safety.

Chamomile is known in the medical community as a mild botanical, which means it is a plant that has medicinal properties. This classification does not guarantee its effectiveness, but in the case of chamomile, you can be pretty sure that drinking one or more cups a day can benefit your health.

)bama : Being The Kerfuffle

We’ve been watching Barack Obama for two years now, and in all that time there hasn’t been a moment in which he has publicly lost his self-control. This has been a period of tumult, combat, exhaustion and crisis. And yet there hasn’t been a moment when he has displayed rage, resentment, fear, anxiety, bitterness, tears, ecstasy, self-pity or impulsiveness. It could be that Obama will be an observer, not a leader. Rather than throwing himself passionately into his causes, he will stand back. Congressional leaders, put off by his supposed intellectual superiority, will just go their own way. Lost in his own nuance, he will be passive and ineffectual. Lack of passion will produce lack of courage. The Obama greatness will give way to the Obama anti-climax.We can each guess how the story ends. But over the past two years, Obama has clearly worn well with voters. Far from a celebrity fad, he is self-contained, self-controlled and maybe even a little dull. Op-Ed Columnist - Thinking About Obama - NYTimes.com

Sardines are healthy and considered a "brain food."
These fish are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which can help maintain a healthy heart[citation needed]. Recent studies suggest that omega-3 fatty acids slow the progression of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease[citation needed]. These fatty acids can also help control blood sugar level[citation needed]. Not only are sardines packed with omega-3 fatty acids, but they are also a good source of vitamin D, calcium, B12 and protein. [4] Sardines are extremely low in contaminates such as mercury. Obama :Allegro Ma Non Troppo-Vivace - Tempo - Adagio Cantabile -…

drawing by marguerita

And then it’s over.

They shake hands. Mr. McCain says repeatedly to Mr. Obama: “Good job, good job, good job.” He then seems caught in not being able to decide which route to take to the stage from behind the desk, throwing up his hands and making a face.

Their wives now join them on stage, Mrs. McCain in Republican red, Mrs. Obama in Democratic blue.

“Senator Obama, your argument for standing up to leaders of your party isn’t very convincing.”

I’m proud of the people who come to our rallies.”
He then noted that big rallies tended to attract “some fringe people.”

“The facts are facts and records are records."

“That, to me, was so hurtful,’’ Mr. McCain said. “

Obama versus McPain,oops McCain

drawing by marguerita

"They're in some pain but in very good spirits''

In tonight’s debate the two candidates will be seated next to each other at a table. The format is intended to promote conversation rather than the regurgitation of stump speeches. It sometimes encourages candidates to be more civil toward one another, but it can also have the opposite effectMr. McCain has already vowed to “whip” Mr. Obama’s “you-know-what” tonight. Of course, he has signaled such a get-tough approach before, only to flag..What to Watch for During the Final Debate - The Caucus Blog - NYTimes.com

Material for President and Vice:Food for Thought

drawing by marguerita

In a moment of historic drama in the Capitol and on Wall Street and considering that neither presidential candidate offers any significant proof of understanding the issues of survival, preoccupation and the meaning (or increasing lack thereof) of the human condition, and global harmony,we must look around and search for more unique individuals, with a background that is more cerebral and therefore more capable to give us the answers that all of us are looking for on this earthly journey.

The aye-aye is a primate -- the same order that we human beings belong to. What did you learn about the social behavior of aye-ayes?

We think they're relatively solitary, but I did follow several individuals who seemed to be moving in pairs. One animal would be in a tree feeding and another animal would be in an adjacent tree feeding. And then they would call to each other. They'd make those calls right before one individual moved to another tree -- and then the second individual would follow. So it seemed that they were foraging in tandem. That was kind of unusual and something that we hadn't seen before.
Research scientist Eleanor Sterling spent almost two years stumbling through the dark forests of Madagascar in an effort to better understand the aye-eye, perhaps one of the most endangered species on the planet.

(Mittermeier et al. 1994; Simons 1995; Sterling 1995).Other unique morphological features of the aye-aye are its inguinal (located near the groin) mammary glands and nipples and its persistent oogenesis in which the female produces ova throughout her lifetime (Petter-Rousseaux & Bourlière 1965; Sterling 1993a). Also, the aye-aye possesses the largest brain among the prosimians (Erickson 1995). A final feature very rarely found in primates is the presence of a nictitating membrane (third eyelid), which moistens the eye when it becomes dry (Sterling 1993a; Sterling & Feistner 2000). This membrane may also protect the eye from wood debris when the aye-aye is gnawing on wood to extract larvae (Sterling 1993a).(Note about blinking)

The ears of the aye-aye are extremely large and moveable, presumably to assist in locating larvae in wood cavities through percussive foraging (Simons 1995). Percussive foraging may in fact rely on touch and not on auditory clues at all (Erickson 1994). The aye-aye possesses large, ever-growing incisors, which it uses to gnaw wood and to access the subsurface larvae it locates through tapping. This feature of ever-growing teeth is unique among primates (Simons 1995). It also uses its rodent-like teeth to gnaw at nuts and hard-shelled fruits (Sterling et al. 1994, Sterling 1994b).

There is little to no sexual dimorphism in the aye-aye (Feistner & Sterling 1995).

Obamonsters:'I'm never looking into the abyss, but I can find the humor in that, too'."

“the anger and turmoil” of that generation had “never entirely drained away,” leaving our politics “trapped in these old, threadbare arguments.”

Wesley Clark:"I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president"

What is it about women and pilots?agonies of physical passion? The McCain campaign appeared incensed by comments made Sunday by an Obama supporter, the retired General Wesley K. Clark, that even heroic service by the Arizona senator as a naval aviator in Vietnam did not prepare him for the presidency. The Obama campaign kept its distance from Clark’s comments. Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Illinois Democrat, said Monday that “Senator Obama honors and respects Senator McCain’s service, and of course, he rejects yesterday’s statement by General Clark." For his part, Mr. Obama traveled Monday to Independence, Mo., to proclaim his patriotism in an appearance linked to the Fourth of July holiday. He defended Americans’ right to differ with the majority, in a speech that traced a history of dissent going back to Jefferson. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/01/us/politics/01campaign.html?hp
