Obama and Hill; How about the Globe to hill -go- round?

drawing by marguerita Democratic officials confirmed on Friday that Mrs Clinton flew to Chicago on Thursday at Mr Obama’s request to discuss an unspecified role in the Obama administration – probably as secretary of state, but Pentagon chief was also cited as a possibility.

.Now that the presidential election is over, pundits and political junkies have to find new ways to amuse themselves. So the new guessing game is “who will be in the Obama administration?”

Today’s FT has a good rumour - Hillary Clinton for secretary of state. I think this is reasonably plausible. The Obama people didn’t want Hillary for vice-president because she would have been a little too close for comfort - and they also didn’t like the idea of Bill hanging around the White House.
But with Hillary safely across town in Foggy Bottom (or even better, in perpetual motion, flying around the world), Obama would be able to put the people he really trusts into the National Security Council, and run foreign policy from there.
And, politics aside, there is another reason to consider her for the job. She might actually be quite good at it.

By the way,Hillary has already visited 82 countries.....
and,as Gail Collins commented:Clinton already has a supply of pantsuits sufficient to get her through six months of peace negotiations in the Middle East without coming home for a change of clothes.

)bama : Being The Kerfuffle

We’ve been watching Barack Obama for two years now, and in all that time there hasn’t been a moment in which he has publicly lost his self-control. This has been a period of tumult, combat, exhaustion and crisis. And yet there hasn’t been a moment when he has displayed rage, resentment, fear, anxiety, bitterness, tears, ecstasy, self-pity or impulsiveness. It could be that Obama will be an observer, not a leader. Rather than throwing himself passionately into his causes, he will stand back. Congressional leaders, put off by his supposed intellectual superiority, will just go their own way. Lost in his own nuance, he will be passive and ineffectual. Lack of passion will produce lack of courage. The Obama greatness will give way to the Obama anti-climax.We can each guess how the story ends. But over the past two years, Obama has clearly worn well with voters. Far from a celebrity fad, he is self-contained, self-controlled and maybe even a little dull. Op-Ed Columnist - Thinking About Obama - NYTimes.com

Sardines are healthy and considered a "brain food."
These fish are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which can help maintain a healthy heart[citation needed]. Recent studies suggest that omega-3 fatty acids slow the progression of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease[citation needed]. These fatty acids can also help control blood sugar level[citation needed]. Not only are sardines packed with omega-3 fatty acids, but they are also a good source of vitamin D, calcium, B12 and protein. [4] Sardines are extremely low in contaminates such as mercury. Sarah Palin:What Goes On Behind a Scene of The A MOOSEment Park

drawing by marguerita

The standard take has it that she’s either speaking utter ignorant gibberish (as to Couric) or reciting highly polished, campaign-written sound bites that she’s memorized (as at the convention and the debate). But there’s a steady unnerving undertone to Palin’s utterances, a consistent message of hubristic self-confidence and hyper-ambition. She wants to be president, she thinks she can be president, she thinks she will be president. And perhaps soon. She often sounds like someone who sees herself as half-a-heartbeat away from the presidency. Or who is seen that way by her own camp, the hard-right G.O.P. base that never liked McCain anyway and views him as, at best, a White House place holder.
Her criterion: she most admires vice presidents “who have gone on to the presidency.” Hours later, at the debate, she offered a discordant contrast to Biden when asked by Gwen Ifill how they would each govern “if the worst happened” and the president died in office. After Biden spoke of somber continuity, Palin was weirdly flip and chipper, eager to say that as a “maverick” she’d go her own way.

Note:
On Who You are Callin' a Maverick.....
There’s that word again: maverick. In Thursday’s vice-presidential debate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, the Republican candidate, used it to describe herself and her running mate, Senator John McCain, no fewer than six times, at one point calling him “the consummate maverick.”But to those who know the history of the word, applying it to Mr. McCain is a bit of a stretch — and to one Texas family in particular it is even a bit offensive. In the 1800s, Samuel Augustus Maverick went to Texas and became known for not branding his cattle. He was more interested in keeping track of the land he owned than the livestock on it, unbranded cattle, then, were called “Maverick’s.” The name came to mean anyone who didn’t bear another’s brand.
John McCain, who has voted so often with his party, “is in no way a maverick, in uppercase or lowercase.”

Sarah Palin:"Her reward is in heaven, right?”

What does a Vice President do?

Now comes Ms. Palin, a smiling, bubbly vice-presidential candidate who travels in an alternate language universe. For Ms. Palin, such things as context, syntax and the proximity of answers to questions have no meaning.Op-Ed Columnist - Palin's Alternate Universe - NYTimes.com

Sarah Palin: Oh, I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it, but it’s motivation for John McCain and I to work that much harder to make sure that our ticket is victorious, and we put government back on the side of the people of Joe six-pack like me, and we start doing those things that are expected of our government, and we get rid of corruption, and we commit to the reform that is not only desired, but is deserved by Americans.

Looking Ahead: The McPain Presidency Changes

Ms. Palin said, “we don’t know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they’re listening, and turns around and talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and their guns when they’re not listening.”

The crowd booed mightily.

....and highlighted her image as an outsider. “We got to remember what the desire is in this nation at this time,” she said. “ He told Ms. Palin he had asked Mr. McCain about her national security credentials and that Mr. McCain had pointed to her commanding of the Alaska National Guard and noted that Alaska is close to Russia.

Are those sufficient credentials?

She appeared extremely rehearsed, especially when she repeated three times that she did not want to “second guess” Israel.
