Spelled half a dozen different ways, this colorful word turns up in Jamaican records as early as 1696. This leafy, spinach-like vegetable is typically prepared as one would prepare turnip or collard greens. This variety of callaloo Amaranthus viridis, better known as Chinese spinach or Indian kale, should not be confused with the callaloo found in the eastern Caribbean, which refers to the leaves of the dasheen plantO mon amour, mon doux, mon tendre, mon merveilleux amour, de l'aube claire jusqu'à la fin du jour, je t'aime encore, tu sais...

Pensamentos: Push Down and Turn,For Ez OPEN,TURN CAP OVER > OPEN CLOSE<
I SUDDENLY recognized SUBITO
drawing / collage by marguerita
and IMMEDIATELY STATIM became familiar.
AT THAT TIME TUM seemed hard
and I wrestled IN VAIN with FRUSTRA,
but I ALREADY knew IAM
and EVEN ETIAM;
and I SOON acquired MOX.
I NEVER recognize NUMQUAM
and FORMERLY I found QUONDAM difficult
while FOR A LONG TIME DIU puzzled me,
and I studied NEQUIQUAM TO NO PURPOSE,
but I have ALWAYS known SEMPER
and NOW I am sure of NUNC;
I can, THEREFORE, conquer IGITUR.
I am NOT YET familiar with NONDUM;
I know TAMEN, HOWEVER;
MOREOVER AUTEM is an old friend,
while TAM is SO simple
THAT UT will be easy.
I hope to learn SIMUL at THE SAME TIME
FOR I do know NAM
and have OFTEN met SAEPE.
THUS I was learning SIC
and had SCARCELY made sure of VIX,
when ONCE UPON A TIME I found I knew OLIM;
THEN I learned INDE,
THEN DEINDE,
and FINALLY I shall master DENIQUE.
MEANWHILE I am struggling with INTEREA,
and AS SOON AS I learn SIMUL ATQUE
I shall AT LENGTH know TANDEM,
and PERHAPS FORSITAN.
AFTERWARDS I mean to learn POSTEA,
and when I have met ITERUM a SECOND TIME
I hope to know QUOQUE ALSO.

"Happy is the man"— the opening words of Horace's second Epode, in which a usurer praises the charms of country life, its freedom from worry and its simplicity, but soon finds his love of money overpowering his sentiment. 'Haec ubi', etc.,
"So spake the money-lender Alphius; he was all but adopting a country life; he got in all his money at the middle of the month, but when the first comes round he wants to put it out again."

Dubaiaiaiai..........
Dubai in Arabic means young Desert Locust!! Why is it called that way? Well this area was full of Locust as recent as 50+ years ago. Actually Dubai area was known for Grass hopper to an extent that there is a very old Arabic Proverb (may be pre-Islamic era or early Islamic period), when some body wants to describe something as plentiful he would say "like the Locust of Dubai”.
The Stem Deb/Dub in Semitic languges has lots of connections to insects and animals, it also means to crawl or walk and It is interesting for you to know that Debroha, the Biblical name, which means a bee in Ancient Caananite language (Dabbor in Arabic is also a type of bee)
Ok I will digress but you might be interested to know that in Arabic language lots of Animal names come from this stem ( db ) for example
Daabah: Animals in general
Dubb : Bear
Dhabb: Lizard
Dhaby (like in Abo Dhaby, UAE capitol): Gazelle
Dabbor :bee
Thobab: Fly (insect)
Theeb : Wolf
Dhaba' : Hayena
Desert Locust
The pesky insects not only disappeared from Dubai but almost from the entire Arabian Peninsula. The insects used to invade the area from Africa across the Red Sea! Why aren't they around any more! I don't know. You might be surprised to know that people used to eat em!! I asked my grand father how it tasted like. Well his answer was (No not chicken) but shrimps. I have to admit that 30 years ago during a fluke, aberrant, mini Locust invasion of the surrounding area I saw a plate full of Locust? How was it prepared? Well it was boiled and NO I did NOT eat any of it. Any way I guess in the early 20th Century and time prior to that those Locust ate nothing but clean desert vegetation and where probably a source of healthy proteins.
I suppose I am not sure- that people in the deserts of Africa do still eat these Locust, Please feel free to correct me if you think that I am wrong.

All we need is LOVE & poetry

Waiting for Obama and Thoughts from Kant
drawing by marguerita-for the moment they can see in him what they hope to see.
On Tuesday, all eyes and ears will be turned to the man whose oratorical skills have been compared to Abraham Lincoln’s, Franklin Roosevelt’s and John Kennedy’s. What does Barack Obama need to do in his inaugural address? We asked William Safire and other former presidential speechwriters for their ideas.'The Speech': An Experts' Guide - Room for Debate Blog - NYTimes.com
For, in the present case,we shall commence with the principles and proceed to the concepts and only then, if poosible, to the senses; whereas in the case of the speculative reason we began with the senses, and had to end with the principles.

Obama and Hill: Sometimes, good things come to those who don’t wait (forever).
drawing by marguerita (first published in the poignant frog- May 22.2008)
There will be a press conference tomorrow morning declaring the whole thing official, in which the former warring enemies will smile for the cameras and say kind things.
As he read the ads in the weekly newspaper, Mr. Obama, a Chicago young President -elect,, wondered about : people who thought they had shared a meaningful exchange with a stranger (on a bus, in a supermarket, at a stoplight), but could not muster the courage to speak at that moment. What drove them to engage in these improbable long-shot attempts to find that person again?
“These little blurbs are delightfully futile and kind of sad — but so hopeful,” . He was inspired .
There, he and Hillary made eye contact, but they did not speak.
“We did the look-at-you, look-away dance,” Hillary recalled. Those looks continued throughout time, and Mr. Obama said, made him feel “gurgly inside.”
“This is Obama’s band; he gets to call the tunes,” said Charlie Cook, publisher of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
“Obama picked Clinton because, after standing next to her in countless debates and having competed against her, he saw her as a very strong, tough, formidable person and wanted her on his team,” Cook said.Bloomberg.com: Politics

Obama and Hill; How about the Globe to hill -go- round?
drawing by marguerita Democratic officials confirmed on Friday that Mrs Clinton flew to Chicago on Thursday at Mr Obama’s request to discuss an unspecified role in the Obama administration – probably as secretary of state, but Pentagon chief was also cited as a possibility.
.Now that the presidential election is over, pundits and political junkies have to find new ways to amuse themselves. So the new guessing game is “who will be in the Obama administration?”
Today’s FT has a good rumour - Hillary Clinton for secretary of state. I think this is reasonably plausible. The Obama people didn’t want Hillary for vice-president because she would have been a little too close for comfort - and they also didn’t like the idea of Bill hanging around the White House.But with Hillary safely across town in Foggy Bottom (or even better, in perpetual motion, flying around the world), Obama would be able to put the people he really trusts into the National Security Council, and run foreign policy from there.
And, politics aside, there is another reason to consider her for the job. She might actually be quite good at it.
.FT.com | Gideon Rachman's Blog | Hillary for secretary of state?
Note:
By the way,Hillary has already visited 82 countries.....
and,as Gail Collins commented:Clinton already has a supply of pantsuits sufficient to get her through six months of peace negotiations in the Middle East without coming home for a change of clothes.
